Wednesday, November 24th- Thanksgiving

Esperanza lives in a neighborhood steeped in poverty: Mice inhabit the homes and children run around barefoot and unsupervised in yards covered mostly in dirt instead of grass and trees. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, she might be hard pressed to find much for which to be thankful.

Your job today is to help Esperanza view Mango Street with appreciative eyes. What does her neighborhood and life offer her for which she might be thankful? Respond to this post using what you remember from the book and what you can infer Esperanza might appreciate and celebrate on Thanksgiving Day.

Address your FIRST comment to Esperanza, and type your name at the end. As you respond to other comments, address the person to whom you're commenting.

Esperanza,
I think you should be thankful for having a family who loves you and a roof over your head, and to have friends, some people dont even have a family or a house.

Esperanza should be thankful she has a roof over her head, and dinner on the table. She should also be thankful for being healty and safe since she lives in a horrible neighboorhood.

Esperanza should be Thankful for having a roof over head and have a family who cares about her.

Esperanza, she should be thankful that she has a dinner on a table. That she has a roof above her head. I think she would be thankful about her friends and family also.

Esperanza,
I think that you should be happy for the life that you have been granted. Some people don't get the chance to have a family let alone a family that cares about them.

Esperanza

You should be great full that you have a family that cares about you, a place to live, and actual food to eat. Also you have clothes to wear, books to read, and friends that care for you.

Esperanza,
You should be thankful that you have a house to live in and be with your family on thanksgiving. The neighborhood might not be good but you will have to accept that until you and your family get money to live in a better house.

Esperanza,
You could be thankful for your family that loves you with all there heart and your friends that you have right now. And the house that you are living in to because right now at this time some families don't have houses they could stay at and sleep in.

Esperanza,

You should be thankful for what you do have! It's not easy living in a house with a big family because then you have to deal with rules, less of attention and less of a lot of everything! You should be thankful for the house you have and the yard you have to play in! Yes, the house might be a little worn out but, with alot of love and support will boost that house up to where it should be!

Esperanza,
You should be thankful of not the place or situation she is in, it is that she will be more careful and things around a later time in her life and that is what she should be thankful for

Esperanza,
I think that you should be thankful with your house, and the yard and the family you have. Your house may not be perfect, and your yard might be small, but At least you have a house, and a yard to play in, some kids live in appartments with no yard, and jsut because your house have a few things wrong with it, you should be thankful of what you have.

-Kerstinnn!

That is true.. buuuut, the house has eletric, food, heating, and a place to sleep. But when you live outside, no eletric, no food, no heating, and maybe nothing to keep you warm..
-Taylor

Anonymous said...

is anyone even here thankful for what they have??

Anonymous said...

Ben i wrote it!

Anonymous said...

I think that Esperanza is depending on her family to try and get her out of the neighborhood because they have always talked about living in a better neighborhood and the one they live in is a bad neighborhood.
