Monday, November 8th - Identity

Think about what you and your classmates posted last week. How do your neighborhood, your house, and your name contribute to your personal identity. How do these elements reflect and contribute to the person you are?

The neighborhood and the people who live in the house with you could have an effect on your personality and the way you act. But, I dont think a name has much to do with someones identity besides how they are addressed.

My neighborhood, my house, and my name will detail my personal information, can be clearly remember me, make me safe, and I can make friends.

Michael Sustita,

Well i live in the country and it is quiet and I dont like it so i like to talk alot and draw attention.

The way your house looks can reflect your idenity but the your name don't

Well i think that they are all very important because your name reveals alot about your self like your appearance and the neighborhood that you might live around may be very nice and clean, and you would probably be the same way for living there or if your houese is nasty or trashy or something poeple might that of you as a bad person, but that may not be true. So i would say that the way you live and your name has a lot to do about your idenity.

My name contributes to my personality becuase its something unique about myself. I probably wouldn't be the same person if I didn't have it. But I don't think my neighborhood contributes to my personality cause its not like I picked where I had to live, its where my paretns decided to buy a house.

i dont really understand this...

Taylor

Cathy, I kinda agree with you about the neighborhood part, but not the name part.

Brianna

Yeah the name i don't think characterizes your personailty.

Honestly I think that is says a lot about you but mostly your parents because you didn't buy your house, or move to your neighborhood. But you do live with them so it reflects

My name is how people identify me. I live in town but i am more of a country person. I think that your house dosn't reflects your identity. The neighborhood could be used to identify somebody.

Is there anything wrong with making assumptions about people based on their house/neighborhood/name? How can you prevent yourself from doing it?

Justice rowe,
Youe name is important for who you are and where you live at makes up your freinds so they are both really importnant.

When ever i meet someone i dont look at how they look or where there from or what kind of neighborhood they live in i see how they act and what kind of personality they have.

Can we assume certain things about people? Since they live in a nice house, they must be... Since they live in a bad neighborhood, they must be... Since their last name is ______, then they must be a bad seed.

Anonymous said...

Cathy,

Kerstin and Taylor I agree with both of you.

assumptions means taken for granted

No I don't really think that the neighborhood, your house, or your name contribute to your personal identity. You could live in an area where there are gangs everwhere you look and you could be like the best student or person in the world.

ARIANNA

I think that what a persons name is has nothiong to with how they act unless if they choose..I think if you get to know the person first that would be a way to prevent assumptions!

no you cant assume certain things about people just because people in there naborhood sell drugs doesent mean that they are going to sell drugs or if there brother is in prison because of robbing a old lady doesent mean that they are going to rob a old lady. So you cant assume certaint things about people just because the people around them did somthing bad

Anonymous said...

Cathy

I dont think anyone should assume things about people. Expecially based on where they live.

I don't think the neighborhood you live in, the house you live in, and your name contribute to your personal identity. I don't think my name, the place I live, and the neighborhood I live in tells my personal identity.

people that live in your neighborhood are the people your more likely to hang out with, the condition of your house might contribute to how people see you, your name is your identity it is what you will be called for the rest of your life

Cathy, great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that everything you do, and how you live and what you belive in effects you yourself. But you could also be affected by the way you mostly persent yourself like for instince you might have nice clothes and lots of money but also be a jerk and have very few friends if any! Another example is you might have maybe 1 pair of socks and 1 pair of everything and you might be nice but you are maybe presented badly in a physical apperance! I DISAGREE AND AGREE ITS A 50/50 FOR ME!
